In The Mud

Getting rid of backlog – March 11, 2017.

Sloughs develop in between sawgrass prairies. Sloughs are about 3 feet (0.91 m) deeper than sawgrass marshes, and may stay flooded for at least 11 months out of the year if  not multiple years in a row. I have not seen the water level at Six Mile Cypress this low in years. The months of December through the beginning of May are the busiest. This time of year you will almost always see snakes sunning, birds wading and alligators on the banks.
